Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Franklin College baseball team resumed its four-game Florida road trip on Tuesday (Mar. 29) afternoon with a rematch against St. Olaf College.
The Grizzlies (14-5) saw their four-game winning streak end as the Oles (5-5) narrowly claimed a 4-3 victory. Tysen Lipscomb, and Matthew Earley had two hits each for Franklin, who finished the game with 10 runners left on base.
How it Happened
The Grizzlies put two runners on in the second and third innings but couldn't get the opening run in. With the game scoreless through five innings, the Oles broke the seal with a three-run sixth inning, getting all three runs off Franklin starter Damian Tillie. The Grizzlies finally cashed in when they came up in the sixth, with Colby Reed driving in a pair with a bases loaded single to cut the lead to 3-2.
One inning later, Noah Wood smacked a two-out triple and came in to score when Matthew Earley followed with a single. But the Oles took advantage of an error in the eighth to score the go-ahead run and held off Franklin in their final two trips to the plate.
Tillie made his first career start for the Grizzlies, allowing two earned runs on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over five innings of work. Chris Foote (2-1) tossed the final four innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts to lower his team-leading ERA to 1.26.
