Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Franklin College baseball team continued their spring break trip on Monday (Mar. 28) afternoon, taking on the Oles of St. Olaf College in the first of two straight matchups between the two teams.
The Grizzlies (14-4) got clutch hitting and shutdown pitching over the final three innings, erasing a three-run deficit to take a 9-8 victory over the Oles (4-5).
How it Happened
The Grizzlies got off to a great start, scoring four times in the top half of the first inning. Logan Demkovich, Sean Sullivan and Adam Taylor all knocked in runs with doubles and the Grizzlies got another run from an error, but the Oles answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie things up.
Demkovich tagged on a run in the second with his eighth home run of the year, but the Grizzly offense would stall out over the next four frames. St. Olaf plated two in the fourth and one in both the fifth and sixth to take an 8-5 advantage into the top of the seventh.
Matthew Earley cut the Oles' lead to 8-6 with an RBI double in the seventh and one inning later, the Grizzlies used their patience to take the lead. Four batters reached by walk or hit by pitch and Tysen Lipscomb, Noah Wood and Sullivan all knocked in runs to put FC in front.
Alex Reinoehl took over from there, allowing just one runner to reach over the last two innings to earn his third save of the season. Mitch Merica (2-1) worked three innings in relief to get the win. Jackson Young got the start for FC, allowing three earned runs over four innings.
