Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Franklin College baseball team opened their four-game spring break trip on Sunday (Mar. 27) afternoon with a matchup against the Purple Cows of Williams College.
After a slow start at the plate, Franklin's (13-4) offense came to life in the third and didn't let up en route to a 15-5 win over the Ephs (3-6). Freshman shortstop AJ Sanders had a career afternoon at the plate, going 4-for-6 with a grand slam and six driven in.
How it Happened
The Purple Cows opened up an early lead with a run in both the second and third innings, but the Grizzlies answered with a pair of runs in the third with Logan Demkovich and Noah Wood bringing in runs. One inning later, the Grizzlies took the lead for good with an RBI double from Colby Reed and they put the game out of reach with a seven-run fifth.
With two outs in the inning, Adam Taylor knocked in a pair of runs with a double and Andrew Wallace followed him with an RBI single. Two batters later, Sanders officially put the game out of reach, clearing the bases with a grand slam and his first career round tripper.
Sanders would drive home two more with RBI hits in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. Sean Sullivan belted a two-run home run in the eighth and Taylor would finish the day 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
On the mound, Nick McClanahan (2-0) allowed four hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts over five innings of work. Tyler Wick and Sam Peck logged the final three innings in relief, striking out a combined five batters.
