Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On a frigid and windy Friday (Mar. 11), the Franklin College baseball team opened a four-game set with the Alma Scots, playing a double-header at Bishop Chatard HS.
The Grizzlies (6-3) opened the series strong, winning game one by a 6-2 score and taking the second contest from the Scots (3-8), 15-7.
Game One: Franklin 6 – Alma 2
Alma claimed the day's first lead with a run in the top of the first and held onto it until the bottom of the third inning. With runners on the corners and no one out, Garrett Ramsey and Adam Taylor pulled off a double steal with Taylor crossing home to even things up.
But the Grizzlies couldn't keep the momentum and the Scots jumped back in front with a fifth inning run. With just nine outs left to play with, Franklin's offense finally came to life with two outs in the seventh.
Taylor launched his first career home run to tie the game and start a stretch where eight straight Grizzlies reached base as part of a five-run frame. AJ Sanders, Tysen Lipscomb and Noah Wood all knocked in runs to give FC a four-run lead.
Chris Foote (2-0) picked up the win in relief, walking one and striking out four over three no-hit innings. Nick McClanahan got the start, scattering seven hits and striking out seven over six innings.
Taylor was the lone Grizzly to record multiple hits and multiple runs scored in his first career start in the outfield.
Game Two: Franklin 15 – Alma 7
The Scots took a 1-0 lead in the second but the Grizzlies would respond in the bottom of the third inning with a six-run frame. Lipscomb, Logan Demkovich, Matthew Earley and Andrew Wallace rattled off RBI hits to put FC in front for good.
The Grizzlies tacked on three in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the eighth to run in a walk. Earley and Wallace both had three hits and knocked in four runs to pace the offense with Sanders scoring three runs from the leadoff spot.
Junior Jackson Young (3-0) went a career-long seven innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out three. Freshman Jobe Luebbehusen closed things out with two innings of two-hit ball in relief of Young.
