GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Franklin College men's track and field team lined up for the Tim Hreha Memorial Indoor Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 5) on the campus of DePauw University.
Franklin picked up two event wins and grabbed 11 top-five finishes to place fourth in the eight-team event with 74.5 points.
Senior Zak Wiley earned the Grizzlies' first win of the day with a big showing in the weight throw, winning the event with a throw of 15.85m. Wiley also added a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.94m. It was a big day for a few FC throwers, with senior Evan Hosea taking fifth in the weight throw (14.26m) and Noah Sigler placing third in the weight throw (15.06m) and fourth in the shot put (13.19m) with Sigler setting a new PR in the latter.
Franklin's other win came in the 4x400 meter relay, with the quarter of Michael Heading, Luke Paddock, Eli Cochrane and Jaycee Wilburn hitting the finish line in 3:37.75.
Freshman John Asplund continued his strong spring, setting a new PR in the 3K with a third-place time of 9:05.57. Fellow rookie Drew McGaha hit a new PR in the 800m run with a time of 2:05.41 to earn a fourth-place finish. Junior Nick Patton grabbed fifth place in a competitive field in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.00.
Newcomer Tivon Wiley placed fourth in the pole vault (3.65m) and set a new PR in the 200m (24.69). Luke Paddock placed fifth in the 400m with a new PR time of 54.04. Tristan Konkler seized fourth place in the high jump after clearing the 1.73m bar.
The Grizzly men have one more tune-up before the conference indoor championships, which takes place next Saturday (Feb. 12) back in Greencastle at the DePauw Indoor Invitational. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m.
