Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On a sunny but chilly Saturday (Feb. 26) afternoon, the Franklin College baseball team rolled to a convincing 20-1 win over Albion on opening day.
The Grizzlies (1-0) got three hits and five RBI from sophomore Colby Reed and two home runs from senior catcher Logan Demkovich in the win. The Grizzlies dominated at the plate and on the mound, recording 18 hits with FC pitchers combining for 18 strikeouts in the win.
How it Happened
Demkovich wasted no time putting the Grizzlies in front, smacking a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Reed followed suit with a two-run blast of his own in the second, spotting the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead.
Those same two helped blow the game open in the third, with Demkovich cracking a solo home run and Reed following later with a three-run double. Case Starkey singled Reed home a batter later to make it a 9-0 game. Franklin poured it on with one run in the fourth and five-spots in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Inside the Box Score
-Demkovich went a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, notching his first career four-hit game and second career multi-homer effort.
-Senior Nick McClanahan (1-0) was dominant over six innings of work, scattering three hits and striking out 11 on just 77 pitches.
-Freshman Damian Tillie fanned four batters over two innings in his first career relief appearance.
-Senior Lukas Kline struck out the side in the ninth inning.
-In their first career games with the Grizzlies, AJ Sanders and Matthew Earley each had a pair of hits.
