RECAP | Grizzlies Place Second Overall at Friday Night Spikes Series

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College men's track and field team headed west on Friday (Jan. 28) night to take part in the Rose-Hulman Friday Night Spikes Series.

The Grizzlies put together a strong team showing on their way to a second place finish with 78 points. Franklin collected three event wins on the night, collecting the bulk of their points in the field events.

The Grizzlies cleaned up in throwing events, with four different athletes earning points on the night. Sophomore Noah Sigler turned in his finest showing with the program, winning the weight throw with a mark of 15.99 meters and moving into second place on Franklin's indoor top-10 list. Sigler wasn't done setting new PR marks, also doing so in the shot put with a heave of 12.63m that earned him fourth place overall.

Senior Zak Wiley moved into fifth place on the top-10 list with his showing in the shot put, finishing with a new PR mark of 13.24m for a runner-up finish. The Mooresville, Ind.-native added another second place finish in the weight throw with a nightly best throw of 15.53m. Also picking up points with fifth-place finishes were senior Evan Hosea in the weight throw (13.49m) and sophomore Jason Arbogast in the shot put (12.34m).

Freshman Tristan Konkler became the second Grizzly to earn a first place showing after setting a new PR in the high jump after clearing the 1.75m bar.

On the track, junior Jaycee Wilburn set a new PR in the 800m run for the second straight week. The New Castle, Ind.-native hit the finish line in 1:57.38 to win the event and move into second place on the indoor top-10 list. In the same event, freshman Drew McGaha recorded a new PR time when he grabbed fifth place in 2:06.91.

Freshman John Asplund blew past his previous PR time in the 3K, hitting the line in 9:14.42 to place third overall. Also setting a new career best time in the 3K was junior Corbin Lee after he crossed the finish in 10:11.14. Junior Nick Patton placed second overall in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.16 seconds. Franklin's 4x400m relay of Wilburn, McGaha, Michael Heading and Eli Cochrane took third overall in 3:38.27.

The Grizzlies are back at it next Friday (Feb. 4) night, traveling to DePauw University for the Tiger Small College Invitational. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
