CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Franklin College men's track and field team opened the indoor season on Friday (Jan. 14) night, taking part in the Robert H. Johnson Invite, hosted by Wabash College.
The Grizzlies lined up opposite Wabash, Indiana East and Spalding, with Franklin claiming two wins and 31 points to claim second place.
Junior Jaycee Wilburn not only picked up a new PR in the mile, but he claimed first place in the event with a time of 4:34.36. Wilburn was part of the Grizzlies' 4x400 meter relay team with Michael Heading, Drew McGaha and Drew Hargis that placed second with a time of 3:39.90.
Also grabbing points in the mile were freshman Elliott Gough, who took third place in 4:50.68, and Heading who placed fourth in 4:58.31. Junior Nick Patton took second place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds. Fellow junior Zach Roberts placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.21) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.29). Freshman John Asplund picked up points with a fourth-place showing in the 3K with a time of 9:30.82.
In the field, senior Zak Wiley set a new PR in the weight throw, winning the event with a throw of 15.86 meters. Fellow senior Evan Hosea took second in the same event with a heave of 13.93m. In the shot put, sophomore Jason Arbogast took second place with a throw of 12.35m with Dalen Williams not far behind in fourth place with a throw of 12.18m. Freshman Tristan Konkler took second in the shot put (1.73m) and Roberts placed fifth in the long jump (5.81m).
The Grizzlies are back in action next Saturday (Jan. 22), heading to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in the Mount St. Joseph Invitational. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
