Box Score 2 HANOVER, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team put the finishing touches on their regular season on Saturday (May 8), wrapping up their weekend series with the Hanover Panthers with two afternoon games.
Franklin's starting pitching shined over the two contests, with junior Nick McClanahan and sophomore Tyler Wick turning in gems as Franklin swept the double-header. McClanahan locked down Hanover in game one in a 9-1 win and Wick took his turn in the second contest with the Grizzlies winning that game 10-4.
Game One: Franklin 9 – Hanover 1
McClanahan had plenty of support before he ever took the mound, with Franklin plating four runs in the first. Tysen Lipscomb roped a one-out single that scored a pair and two batters later, Jacob Heuchan clubbed his second home run in as many games to double the lead.
Heuchan brought a run in with a ground out in the third and Logan Demkovich added to the lead with a two-run single in the fourth. Heuchan drove in another run in the eighth with a single and Sean Sullivan capped the scoring with a bases-loaded walk later in the inning.
McClanahan (5-0) was dominant over his 121 pitches, striking out a career-high 14 batters and allowing one earned run on five hits. The Ryle, Ky.-native notched his second career double-digit strikeout game and tied with four other Grizzlies for the second most strikeouts in a game in program history. The last Grizzly to fan 14 in a game was former ace Jordan Clark back in 2017.
Heuchan paced the offense with four RBI and was one of three Grizzlies to record three hits along with Lipscomb and Demkovich.
Game Two: Franklin 10 – Hanover 4
Lipscomb continued his tear in the top of the first, doubling home Ryan Bixler. One frame later, Heuchan led off the inning with a solo home run, his third of the weekend. Adam Hedinger and Lipscomb doubled Franklin's lead in the third with runs knocked in on back-to-back pitches.
Lipscomb would drive in three more runs later in the game and Bixler added an RBI single in the eighth. It proved to be more than enough run support for Wick (1-0), who was brilliant in earning his first career victory. The Whiteland, Ind.-native tossed 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball to start, allowing two earned runs on two hits with eight strikeouts over eight innings of work.
Lipscomb finished the game with five RBI and Bixler went 4-for-4 at the dish in game two.
