Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – Playing in their final match of the spring season, the Franklin men's soccer team ended their campaign on a high note with a 4-1 victory over the Earlham Quakers under the lights at Faught Stadium.
Four different players found the back of the net for the Grizzlies with Jacob Thompson, Noah Harris, Trevor Bray and Dany Escamilla sticking home goals.
How it Happened
The game was less than seven minutes old when Franklin got the ice-breaker when a long ball from Zach Tutrow found Thompson in space and the Salem, Ind.-native fought off a defender before sticking a shot inside the right post for his third goal of the season. Four minutes later, Franklin used the long ball to net their second goal when Landon Tak's free kick from 45 yards out found the head of freshman Noah Harris, who made no mistake in potting his first career goal to make it 2-0.
Franklin's lead grew to 3-0 late in the first half when the hosts were awarded a penalty kick when Elijah Woodring was hauled down in the 18-yard box. Bray stepped up for the attempt and made no mistake, burying his first goal of the year and second of his career to make it a 3-0 game.
The Quakers cut Franklin's lead to a pair in the 59th minute but Escamilla put the stops to any kind of comeback bid in the 63rd minute, streaking down the right wing and firing home his team-leading fourth of the spring.
Tutrow and Tak both collected their first career points with their first half assists and Angel Tapia notched a helper on Escamilla's goal. Shots for the game were 22-10 in Earlham's favor and 12-7 in shots on target. Franklin goalkeeper Elliott Clark stopped a career-high 11 shots on target, with eight coming in the final 45 minutes.
The Grizzlies conclude their spring season with a 3-6-1 record, going 3-1-1 over their final five matches of the season.
