Defeat at Transylvania Closes Men's Soccer Season

Transylvania men's soccer had an opportunity to clinch an outright HCAC regular-season title and the top seed in the conference tournament by beating Franklin on Wednesday night.

The host Pioneers left nothing to chance and showed little mercy, rolling to an 11-1 victory over the Grizzlies.

Franklin's season ends with a 2-14-1 overall record and a 1-7-1 conference mark.

The Grizzlies actually got the first shot on goal in the match, with Theo Sasso putting one on frame midway through the fourth minute. But Transy fired back, scoring goals in the 10th, 15th, 18th and 22nd minute to build a 4-0 cushion by the midway point of the first half.

For the remainder of the half, Franklin kept the deficit at four, but the dam broke early in the second half as the Pioneers scored five times in a span of less than nine minutes to stretch their lead to 9-0 with 30:57 still remaining in the match.

Senior Lucas Pereira broke up the shutout with 26:33 to go, netting his first goal of the season, before Transy tacked on a pair of window-dressing goals, including one in the final minute of play.

The Grizzlies were outshot by a 25-3 margin; Transylvania also enjoyed a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal and 14-1 in corner kicks.

Franklin says goodbye to four graduating seniors: Lal Tlang, Pereira, Sasso and Kameron Darnold.
