Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Franklin College baseball team headed south for two games on Sunday (Apr. 25) with the Transylvania Pioneers at Legends Ballpark.
The Grizzlies (15-9) slugged five home runs on the afternoon with Nick Wright, Ryan Bixler, Sean Sullivan and Quenton Wellington all leaving the yard. But the day belonged to the Pioneers (22-8) with Transy taking wins by scores of 7-5 and 20-6.
Game One: Transylvania 7 – Franklin 5
Down by three after an inning, the Grizzlies got things tied up with one swing of the bat in the second when Sullivan clubbed a two-out, three-run home run. Wright led off the third with a homer to put the Grizzlies in front and Wellington smacked a lead-off homer in the fifth to even things up at 5-5.
But the Pioneers would get two runs in the seventh to take the lead for good and the Grizzlies couldn't muster a rally before the final out. Tyler Wick got the start and went a career-long six innings that saw him surrender two earned runs on six hits.
Game Two: Transylvania 20 – Franklin 6 (7 inn.)
Colby Reed gave the Grizzlies the lead in the top of the second with a one-out single that plated Jacob Heuchan. Bixler would bring in two with a home run in the fifth and he repeated that feat in the top of the seventh. Jackson Young also drove in a run with a single in the final inning.
Mitch Merica (3-2) got the start in the night cap and allowed five earned runs over three innings of work. Lukas Kline and Tyler Placke both made their first career appearances on the mound in relief.

The Grizzlies will have a chance for some payback against the Pioneers on Tuesday (Apr. 27), when they host Transy at John P. McDowell Field for the fifth and final meeting of the year between the teams. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
