Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team opened an important seven-game homestand on Friday (Apr. 2) afternoon with a single game against the Mount St. Joseph Lions.
The Grizzlies (8-4) turned an early game pitcher's duel into a rout late in the game, plating eight runs over the final two innings to pick up their third win of the year over the Lions (6-9) with an 11-1 victory.
How it Happened
Logan Demkovich led off the second with a double and scored two batters later on Tysen Lipscomb's RBI ground out to open the scoring. Ryan Bixler added to the lead an inning later with an RBI single and after the Lions cut the lead in half in the fourth, the Grizzlies restored their two-run lead when a two-out MSJ error allowed Colby Reed to score and make it 3-1.
The Grizzlies put some more distance between the two sides with a three-run seventh and sealed the game with a five-run eighth inning.
Inside the Box Score
-Lipscomb led all Franklin position players with four RBI, knocking in three runs over the final two innings. It sent a new single-game high for the Wapahani, Ind.-native.
-Bixler was the only Grizzly to record more than one hit, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
-Freshman Sean Sullivan swiped three bases on the afternoon, setting a single-game career high and ranks second on the team with five bags swiped.
-Sophomore Jackson Young (1-0) picked up his first career victory on the mound, entering in the fifth inning and striking out four batters over three perfect innings of work.
-Tyler Wick made his first career start, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts over four innings of work.
