RECAP | Tommies Pull Away from Grizzlies Late on Tuesday Morning

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – On Tuesday (Mar. 26) morning, the Franklin College baseball team continued their spring break trip with a showdown against the Tommies of St. Thomas College (Minn.).

The Grizzlies (9-6) fell behind early but kept the game close as the teams entered the late innings. But three big St. Thomas (7-3) innings to close out the game proved too much to overcome in a 14-4 Franklin loss.

The Tommies grabbed the lead thanks to a four-run second inning, but Franklin would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs and Ryan Bixler on first, Nick Wright laced a double into the left center field gap, bringing Bixler all the way around for the Grizzlies' first run of the game. One batter later, Wright would come in to score on Drew Naumovich's single to left, making it a 4-2 game.

Chances were sparse for both teams over the next two innings before the sixth inning started a four-frame stretch that saw the Tommies score 10 unanswered runs. Blake Fisher collected his first career RBIs in the bottom of the ninth, singling in Adam Hedinger and Grant Druckemiller to cap the scoring for the Grizzlies.

Nate Stonebraker (1-2) made his first career start for the Grizzlies, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of work. Quenton Wellington finished the day with a pair of hits and was one of three Grizzlies with an extra-base knock on Tuesday along with Wright and Jordan Crouse.

Franklin wraps up their spring break trip on Wednesday (Mar. 27) morning with a single game against Union College (N.Y.). First pitch from Florida is set for 9:30 a.m.
