Early in the season, Franklin baseball had no problem scoring runs. On Saturday, they were a bit harder to come by.
The Grizzlies were unable to get the timely hits in the late innings at Anderson on Saturday afternoon, and as a result they came home with a pair of tough 4-2 defeats.
Franklin (14-13, 4-8 HCAC) scored first in the opening game, with
Garrett DeHart coming home on a
Davis Wagner in the top of the first inning, but the Ravens answered back with three unearned runs in the bottom of the frame. Down 4-1, the Grizzlies got an RBI single from
Dyllan Redmon in the sixth and brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth and ninth innings, but they were unable to finish off the comeback.
Chase Wagner took the hard-luck loss, allowing just three hits and one earned run over eight innings of work. He struck out nine Anderson batters.
In the nightcap, Anderson again picked up three first-inning runs before
Nic Deering got the Griz on the board with an RBI base hit in the second. Franklin again trailed by three going into the late innings and got within a pair when
Drew Helton drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning, but the visitors left the bags full after that and then were unable to score with two runners on and one out in the ninth.
Caden Wilburn pitched six solid innings in defeat, scattering six hits while fanning four.
Luke Harmon threw two innings of shutout relief to keep Franklin in the game.
The Grizzlies step out of conference on Sunday afternoon, hosting DePauw in a single game at noon.
