Baseball Bounces Back, Wins Game Two vs. Spartans

Game one of Friday's doubleheader got away from Franklin baseball. The Grizzlies made sure it didn't happen again in game two.

Drew Helton's three-run homer highlighted a six-run sixth inning that helped the Griz secure a 12-6 nightcap victory, an emphatic bounce back after a tough 10-8 defeat in the opener.

Franklin (13-10, 4-5 HCAC) scored four runs in the second inning of game two, with Alex Billman hitting a two-run double in between Dyllan Redmon's bases-loaded walk and an RBI groundout by Josh Girvan. After the Spartans tied it up at 4-4 in the third, the Grizzlies erupted in the top of the sixth. Kam Seitz and Redmon got things started with RBI doubles, and after another run scored when Nic Deering reached on a fielder's choice, Helton clubbed a 1-0 pitch over the wall in center field to make it 10-4.

Deering tacked on an RBI single in the seventh, then drew a throw on an attempted steal that allowed Redmon to score from third base with the final Franklin run. Aidan Ray worked 2.2 innings of relief to earn the victory for the Grizzlies.

In game one, Franklin scored six unanswered runs to take a 6-2 lead. A Seitz sac fly and a Billman RBI single tied the game at 2-2, Davis Wagner and Redmon drove in runs in the third and fifth innings and Deering hit a two-run triple in the sixth.

After a five-run Manchester sixth, the Grizzlies tied it one more time at 7-7 when Garrett DeHart scored on a passed ball. The Spartans went in front with a three-run eighth and then held off a Griz rally in the top of the ninth.

Billman — who had a pair of two-hit games on the day — drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a two-run game before Manchester retired the final hitter to leave the bags full.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a single game at Manchester on Monday afternoon (4:15 p.m.).
