NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Franklin women's tennis team faced off against Rose-Hulman in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships on Friday (Oct. 18) night in a meeting between the tournament's four and five seeds.
Franklin's bid for their first HCAC Tournament championship since 2012 came to an end, with the Engineers taking a 5-0 decision to move on to the semifinals against top-seeded Anderson.
The Grizzlies made a few adjustments to their doubles lineup with Sydney Utterback and Kinley Harmon teaming up from the top spot, Emma Foley and Addie Rund moving up to No. 2 and Syndey Logsdon and Alayna Munson filling in at No. 3. But all three teams were bested by the Engineers with Rose dropping five points along the way.
That success carried over to singles play where the Engineers ended the match with a pair of straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles play.
Franklin finishes the fall with a 5-8 record and a 4-4 record in league play to remain the only school in the league to qualify for the conference tournament since its 2004 inception. The Grizzlies will play an abbreviated spring schedule, which begins on Feb. 22 with a neutral site match against Alma.
