ANDERSON, Ind. – A select few members of the Franklin College track and field teams traveled north to Anderson University on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon for the Fred Wilt Memorial Indoor Invitational.
The highlight of the afternoon for the Grizzlies came in the women's 4x200 meter relay, where the team of Emily Walker, Kelsey Bowling, Sarah Miller and Morgan Clarke blew past the competition. The quartet's time of 1:50.97 was tops among the competition, nearly seven seconds better than the next closest team.
Three members of the relay team had success as individuals later in the day. Freshman Morgan Clarke claimed second place in the finals of the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.40 seconds. The Indianapolis, Ind.-native would also set a new personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.42 seconds, good for fourth place overall.
Walker picked up a third-place finish in the 60 meter dash, finishing just behind Clarke in third place with a time of 8.43 seconds. Bowling took fifth place in the same event, clocking in with a clip of 8.54 seconds.
Making her first career appearance in the long jump, junior Laura Worthington earned a sixth-place finish with a leap of 4.38 meters. The lone member of the men's team to compete on Saturday, sophomore Matt Steinke grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.13 seconds.
The Grizzlies will head to Delaware, Ohio for their final event of the spring next Saturday, taking part in the Ohio Wesleyan Last Chance Meet. Competition gets underway at 11:30 a.m.
