Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader At Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI, Ohio. (April 15, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Mount St. Joseph.

The host Lions won the first game 3-2, and the Grizzlies took the second game 11-5.

In Game 1, the Grizzlies led 1-0 after two innings, and the teams were tied 2-2 after eight innings. But the Lions scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

In the second game, the Grizzlies trailed 4-1 after two innings but scored three runs in the top of the fourth, five in the top of the eighth and two more in the top of the ninth to secure the win.

Franklin combined for nine hits in the second game, with second baseman Brandt Pawley leading the way with a 3 for 4 effort at the plate that included two RBIs. Right fielder Jarrod Smith was 2 for 5 with a game-high three RBIs, and catcher Jackson Freed was 2 for 5, including a home run.

Pitcher Christian Sullivan picked up win the win in relief of starter Jordan Clark.

With the split, Franklin is 17-11 overall and 9-6 in the HCAC.

The Grizzlies return to action April 18 for a 4:15 p.m. home game against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
