Baseball Team Triumphs At Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. (March 31, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team rolled to an 11-6 win Friday evening at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Earlham College.

The victory was the Grizzlies' third straight and improved their record to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in the HCAC.

Franklin received an outstanding pitching performance from Mitch Caster, who scattered five hits and struck out 10 batters in 7-1/3 innings to improve to 4-1.

Offensively, the Grizzlies tallied 14 hits, including a pair of doubles by shortstop Sam Claycamp, one of five Franklin players with multiple hits.

Claycamp was 2 of 4 at the plate with two runs scored. Catcher Alex Mis was 3 of 6 with three runs. Right fielder Jarrod Smith was 2 of 6 with two RBIs. Third baseman Jackson Freed was 2 of 5 with an RBI, and designated hitter Mitch Schuman was 2 of 4 with a run scored.

First baseman Frank Podkul was 1 of 4 with two runs and a team-high two RBIs.

Franklin resumes its three-game series at Earlham (8-6, 3-2 HCAC) on Saturday with a doubleheader. Game times are noon and 3:30 p.m.
