Baseball Team Wins HCAC Opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 24, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday with a 10-7 win at Transylvania.

Pitcher Jordan Clark went the distance in picking up the win and improving his record to 3-0. He scattered eight hits and struck out 14 batters in nine innings of work.

Franklin's offense got a big lift from left fielder Nick Wright, who went 2 for 5 at the plate, including a home run and a double, with four RBIs. Shortstop Sam Claycamp was 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Designated hitter Alex Mis, catcher Jackson Freed and second baseman Brandt Pawley drove in a run each for the Grizzlies, who rallied from a 6-3 second-inning deficit to pick up the victory.

Franklin is 9-5 overall heading into Saturday's doubleheader at Transylvania (6-9, 1-1 HCAC). Game times are noon and 3 p.m.
