Baseball Team Wraps Up Home Series With Win

FRANKLIN, Ind. (March 19, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team concluded its three-game series against visiting Capital University with a 9-5 win on Sunday afternoon.

Franklin, which won two of the three games, improves to 8-5 heading into the March 24 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Transylvania.

Against Capital on Sunday, Franklin tallied 11 hits, including a 3 for 4 day at the plate by shortstop Sam Claycamp. He got the Grizzlies going early with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and finished the day with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Capital (8-5) forged a 2-2 after three innings, but the Grizzlies answered with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and led the rest of the way.

Pitcher Jacob McMain picked up the win and improved to 2-1. He got support from catcher Jackson Freed, who drove in two runs, and left fielder Nick Wright, who also drove in a run. First baseman Drew Naumovich was 2 of 4 with a run scored.

Franklin's conference-opener at Transylvania is the first of a three-game series against the Pioneers. Game time is 4 p.m. The teams play a doubleheader March 25. Game times are noon and 3 p.m.
