RICHMOND, Ind. – After a week away from the court, the Franklin College women's tennis team resumed their fall slate on Saturday afternoon against the Earlham Quakers.
Franklin (9-1, 5-0 HCAC) remained perfect in conference play on Saturday, coasting to an 8-1 win for their third consecutive dual match victory.
The Grizzlies grabbed control of the match during doubles play, taking all three matches with ease. Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose continued their dominance as the Grizzlies' top pair, picking up an 8-0 win. Number two tandem Megan Battles and Lilly Bushong came away with an 8-5 win while Claire Hirsch and Jessica Baker picked up an 8-1 to wrap up doubles play.
In singles play, Dringenburg cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win from the top spot. Rose dropped just one point in No. 2 doubles play, emerging with a 6-1, 6-0. Battles was locked in a hard-fought contest with Earlham's Alexandra Canaday, but she was able to come away with a 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 three-set win in a battles of the team's No. 4 players.
Bushong and Baker would have less trouble than that picking up their points at the back end of the Franklin lineup. Bushong was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in the five-spot while Baker matched Dringenburg with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the six-hole.
The Grizzlies will look to make it four wins in a row on Sunday, when they begin a three-match homestand against Oakland City University. First serve from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex is set for 11:00 a.m.
