Box Score Westfield, Ind. - Franklin College senior left-handed pitcher Hayden Cleveland (Brownsburg, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) allowed two hits and recorded nine strikeouts to lead the Grizzlies to a 9-1 victory over Anderson University on Saturday at Grand Park.
Anderson swept a doubleheader on Saturday, winning 6-0 and 7-5 to win the three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series.
Cleveland allowed an infield single in the first inning and a leadoff single in the ninth inning. He recorded nine strikeouts and allowed two walks in the complete-game victory.
The Grizzlies recorded five extra-base hits, including three triples on Saturday. Franklin scored two runs in the first inning. Senior Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) got the team on the scoreboard with a single to score freshman Mitchell Moore (Seymour, Ind./Seymour). A few batters later, junior Jacob Troxell (Lapel, Ind./Lapel) drove home freshman Jordan Clark (Connersville, Ind./Connersville).
Franklin took a 3-1 lead in the second inning after a single from Clark and a two base error allowed Moore to score from first base.
The Grizzlies scored three runs in the sixth and eighth innings to increase the lead to 9-1. A two-run triple by senior Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) started the scoring in the frame. He later scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Chase Steinbrunner (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli).
In the eighth inning, Steinbrunner recorded a leadoff triple. Clark hit a two-run single before Ardizzone legged out a triple in the frame.
Clark led Franklin's 12-hit offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Ardizzone and Steinbrunner each tallied two hits in the victory. Four players scored two runs in the contest.
Franklin returns to action on Tuesday, May 3 at 4:13 p.m. when it hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from John P. McDowell Field.
