Box Score Franklin, Ind. - Bluffton University scored one run in the ninth and 10th innings to defeat the Franklin College baseball team 7-6 in 10 innings to conclude the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series on Sunday from John P. McDowell Field.
Franklin scored four runs in the eighth inning to take a 6-5 lead. Sophomore Frank Podkul (Schererville, Ind./Andrean) delivered the big hit with a two-run single to score seniors Jason Simpkins (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) and Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) to give the Grizzlies to lead.
The hosts received a single from sophomore Mitch Schuman (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) to start the eighth inning. Freshman Tanner Nicholson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Bluffton tied the game in the ninth inning on a base hit from Luke Hickey. In the 10th inning, a two-out infield single scored the eventual winning run.
The Beavers scored four times in the second inning to take an early lead. Franklin got on the scoreboard in the third inning on a double from freshman Jordan Clark (Connersville, Ind./Connersville). The base hit scored Kammerer.
Trailing 5-1, Simpkins led off the seventh inning with his first collegiate home run.
Kammerer led Franklin's 10-hit offensive attack with three hits and scoring two runs. Nicholson added two hits. Podkul and Clark each drove in runs in the middle of the lineup.
