Box Score 2 Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College sophomore Christian Sullivan (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) recorded six strikeouts in a complete-game victory to lift the Grizzlies to a 7-5 victory over Capital University on Sunday at John P. McDowell Field.
Adrian College (4-4) scored multiple runs in four innings to pick up a 14-3 triumph in the second game on Sunday.
Franklin broke a 5-5 tie with two runs scored in the sixth inning against Capital. An error allowed sophomore Mitch Schuman (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) to score and give the hosts a 6-5 lead. Freshman Tanner Nicholson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) scored on a groundout by freshman Jordan Clark (Connersville, Ind./Connersville).
The Grizzlies took a 4-1 lead after the opening inning. Senior Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) provided a run-scoring single to plate Clark for the inning's second run. Back-to-back singles by sophomore Frank Podkul (Schererville, Ind./Andrean) and Schuman increased the lead to 4-1.
Capital (8-5) regained the lead, 5-4, in the second inning behind a four-run frame. Franklin tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth inning when Schuman scored on a fielding error hit by freshman Mitchell Moore (Seymour, Ind./Seymour).
Sullivan allowed three earned runs and tallied six strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Offensively, Schuman and Nicholson each recorded three hits and two runs scored. Ardizzone added two hits in the Capital victory.
In the second game, Adrian scored twice in the second inning and tallied four runs in the fifth inning. The lead grew to 7-0 in the sixth inning before scored all three runs in the bottom o the sixth inning. Podkul led off the frame with a home run. A fielding error on a double by Nicholson allowed Schuman to score from first base to cut the deficit to 7-2. Nicholson later scored a base hit by Ardizzone.
Adrian scored three runs each in the seventh and eighth inning to secure the victory.
Franklin returns to action on Friday, March 25, at 4:13 p.m. when it opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play against Transylvania University in a three-game series from John P.
