Box Score Franklin, Ind. - Capital University scored four runs after the seventh inning to defeat the Franklin College baseball team 8-4 on Saturday to open the weekend's action from John P. McDowell Field.
The Crusaders (8-3) scored an unearned run with a two-out single by Tyler Cetnarowski.
Capital took a 4-0 lead after a three-run fifth inning. The Grizzlies answered with a three-run fifth inning. Senior Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) provided the big hit of the frame with a two-run single. The base hit scored freshmen Tanner Nicholson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) and Mitchell Moore (Seymour, Ind./Seymour). Sophomore Mitch Schuman (St. Leon, Ind./East Central) scored on a base hit by Nicholson earlier in the inning.
Franklin (4-7) tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nicholson to score junior Jacob Troxell (Lapel, Ind./Lapel).
Capital regained the lead, 5-4, on a run-scoring single by Logan Bastin in the seventh inning. The team scored one additional run in the eighth inning before adding two insurance runs in the ninth inning.
Nicholson and Kammerer each led Franklin's offensive attack with two runs batted in. Seven players recorded one hit in the contest.
Franklin returns to action on Sunday, March 20, at noon when it faces Capital. The Grizzlies later face Adrian College at 3 p.m. from John P. McDowell Field.
