Box Score 2 Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College sophomore right-handed pitcher Christian Sullivan (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) scattered four hits and recorded six strikeouts in a complete-game victory to lead the baseball team to a doubleheader split against Hope College on Saturday from John P. McDowell Field.
The Grizzlies (4-6) won the opener 5-2, while Hope (2-1) earned a 7-1 victory in the weekend finale.
Sullivan surrendered his first hit of the game with one out in the sixth inning.
Franklin took a 1-0 lead in the third inning in the opener on a base hit by freshman Tanner Nicholson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) to score junior Jacob Troxell (Lapel, Ind./Lapel).
The Grizzlies scored twice in the sixth inning to build a 3-0 advantage. A run-scoring double by senior Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) scored the first run of the frame. Pelley later scored on a single by sophomore Jackson Freed (Westfield, Ind./Westfield).
In the seventh inning, Nicholson legged out a triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly by senior Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon). Franklin took a 5-1 lead in the eighth inning on a double from Troxell to score Pelley.
Freed collected three of Franklin's 10 hits in the victory, while Pelley and Nicholson each recorded two hits.
In the second game, Hope broke the game open behind a three-run fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead. The margin would later grow to six runs before the Grizzlies on the scoreboard in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly from Kammerer.
Freshman Jordan Clark (Connersville, Ind./Connersville) recorded two hits to lead the offensive attack.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, March 19, at 1:30 p.m. against Capital University at Grand Park in Westfield. The Grizzlies will play Capital on Sunday, March 20, at 1 p.m. and Adrian College at 4 p.m. from Grand Park.
