Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team concluded the home schedule with two losses to Hanover College on Tuesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action from John P. McDowell Field.

The visitors picked up a 12-1 win in the opener before earning a 9-8 victory in 10 innings in the second contest.

Franklin scored three times with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings. Trailing 8-5 the Grizzlies got the first two runs of the frame on two fielding errors. A single by freshman Mitch Schuman (Sunman, Ind./East Central) scored freshman Adam Daria (Villa Hills, Ky./Dixie Heights) to tie the game.

In the 10th inning, Hanover plated an unearned run with two outs to take a 9-8 lead.

Franklin stranded the game-tying run at first base after a one-out single by senior Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo).

The hosts got a single by sophomore Jacob Troxell (Lapel, Ind./Lapel) in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by freshman Jackson Freed (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) gave Franklin a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Hanover would plate two runs each in the second, third, and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead. The lead grew to 7-2 in the fifth inning.

Franklin scored two runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to three runs, 7-4. A fielding error allowed Frey to score the first run of the frame. Junior Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) followed with a run-scoring single.

A groundout by Troxell in the seventh inning brought the Grizzlies within two runs, 7-5.

Hanover plated an unearned run in the eighth inning to increase the lead to 8-5. Then, Franklin mounted the ninth-inning rally by the Grizzlies.

In the opener, the Panthers scored five runs in the sixth inning to break the game open. The team recorded 16 hits in the victory.

Franklin closes out the 2015 season when it travels to Manchester University for a three-game series beginning Friday, May 1 at 4:15 p.m. from North Manchester, Indiana. Live statistics and video of the game will be available at www.franklingrizzlies.com.
