Box Score Terre Haute, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team lost a 7-1 road Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening.
The Fightin' Engineers (8-6, 3-1 HCAC) plated two runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 lead, and capped the scoring with three runs in the eighth inning.
Franklin (7-9, 0-4 HCAC) scored first, with its lone run coming in the top of the third inning on a groundout from senior Tyler Ison (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community). That play scored senior Dylan Reyher (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion).
Rose-Hulman's Caleb Kissel drove in two runs with a double in the bottom of the third inning. The base hit gave the Fightin' Engineers a 2-1 lead. The team added two more runs in the fourth inning to have a 4-1 advantage.
In the eighth inning, Ison recorded an infield single and a walk to junior Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) brought the game-tying run to the plate. However, a strikeout following a pitching change for Rose-Hulman ended the threat.
Then, Franklin loaded the bases in the ninth inning after two consecutive singles by freshmen Bo Stewart (Brazil, Ind./Northview) and Adam Daria (Villa Hills, Ky./Dixie Heights). A two-out walk to junior Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) loaded the bases with two outs. The Fightin' Engineers got out of the jam once again, with a groundout ending the game.
Franklin returns to action on Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m. when it travels to Anderson University for a single HCAC game.
