Box Score Westfield, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team completed a busy weekend slate of games against some Midwest teams with an 11-6 loss to North Central College on Sunday afternoon from Grand Park.
The Grizzlies split a pair of games with the Cardinals (4-4), winning 13-5 in the opening game on Saturday. Franklin lost a hard-fought 5-3 contest to 2014 NCAA Division III regional participant Adrian College in the nightcap.
The team scored four runs in the fourth inning to tie the contest at 5-5. A two-run single by sophomore Damon DeJesus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Blackhawk Christian) started the big frame. The hit scored junior Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) and senior Tyler Ison (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community). Junior Jason Simpkins (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) followed with a two-run triple to plate junior Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and DeJesus to tie the game.
North Central answered back with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead, 8-5. The Cardinals added two more runs in the seventh inning to build a 10-5 lead.
A double by freshman Mitch Schuman (Sunman, Ind./East Central) capped Franklin's scoring in the seventh inning.
Senior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and Simpkins each collected two hits for Franklin. Schuman, DeJesus, and Simpkins each drove in two runs.
Franklin returns to action when it hosts Thomas More College on Wednesday, March 18, at 4 p.m. from John P. McDowell Field.
