Box Score Westfield, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough in a 5-3 loss to Adrian College on Saturday evening from Grand Park.
The Grizzlies (5-3) defeated North Central College 13-5 in Saturday's opener. The team plated 12 runs in the eighth inning in the victory.
Adrian (6-3) scored three times in the seventh inning to build a 5-1 advantage.
Franklin got a pair of walks to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) lined a single to plate junior Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) for the first run of the rally. The Grizzlies cut the deficit to 5-3 on a groundout by freshman Mitch Schuman (Sunman, Ind./East Central) to score junior Jason Simpkins (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli).
Franklin would bring the game-tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings, but was unable to continue the late rally.
Adrian, a 2014 NCAA Division III regional participant, scored in the top of the first inning on a double by Ryan Dorow. The Grizzlies tied the game an inning later on a sacrifice fly by Pelley.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead after a two-out single by Josh Knorr in the fourth inning.
Brock led Franklin's offensive attack with two hits. Both teams collected seven hits in the contest.
Franklin returns to action on Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. when it battles North Central from Grand Park.
