Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Franklin College baseball team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a road series victory after splitting a doubleheader at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at Marge Schott Stadium at University of Cincinnati.

The Grizzlies won the opener 14-4 before losing 7-4 in the second game. Franklin (11-5, 2-1 HCAC) is scheduled to play its first seven conference games on the road.

The visitors scored five runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away from a 3-2 advantage in the opener.

Sophomore Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and three runs scored. He had a two-run single as part of the five-run sixth inning. Junior Tyler Ison (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) hit three doubles and drove in two runs in the opener.

Freshman Cody Shipley (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) rounded out the multiple-hit efforts, collecting two hits in the victory. Franklin had 15 hits in the game.

On the mound, sophomore Hayden Cleveland (Brownsburg, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) improved to 4-0 on the season. The left hander recorded seven strikeouts in six innings.

In the second game, MSJ (5-8-1, 1-2 HCAC) broke 4-4 tied with three runs in the fourth inning. The Lions would keep the Grizzlies off the scoreboard for the rest of the game.

Franklin loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning with no outs as junior Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo), senior Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) and sophomore Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) started the frame with singles. However, MSJ reliever Collin Shaw would get a groundout and two strikeouts to end the rally.

Trailing 4-1, Franklin tied the game with a three-run fourth inning. A single by Shipley plated sophomore Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North). Then, Ison and Shipley would score on a double from Frey.

Frey, Ison, Shipley and Windler each had two hits to lead the team's 12-hit attack in the contest.

Franklin returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 at 4 p.m. when it travels to Spalding University for a non-conference match up.
