Turns out that breaking a school record held by an All-American will turn some heads.

Franklin freshman Alex Mast was named the HCAC's Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week in women's indoor track and field after turning in a history-making performance in the 400-meter dash over the weekend.

Mast, a native of Bloomington, Indiana, posted a time of 59.65 seconds in the 400 at the Wittenberg Invite on Saturday, becoming the first Griz female to ever go under a minute in the event. She broke the old school record of 1:00.00 held by Anna Murdock, who was inducted into the Franklin College Athletic Hall of Fame last fall as the school's first individual national champion (outdoor 800 meters in 2015).

The Grizzlies have now had two freshmen win Athlete of the Week honors during the women's indoor season, with Grace Tincher having taken the award twice.
