SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Franklin's track and field teams traveled east over the weekend for their last regular-season indoor competition, the Wittenberg Invitational.

Sophomore William Hirsch got the day started for the Grizzly men in the 3,000 meters. Hirsch earned himself a new personal best of 8:50.25 while also breaking Clayton Brumfield's school record from 2019.

For the women, freshman Alexandria Mast ran the 400 meters in 59.65, becoming the first Grizzly ever to go under a minute for an indoor 400. She broke recently inducted Hall of Famer Anna Murdock's school record by .35 seconds.

The men's mile saw success from junior Nathan Furnish. He ran to a new PB of 4:32.62, claiming the eighth spot in school history. In the 200 meters, freshman Gabriel Gomes ran a new personal best (23.50), putting him seventh on the all-time list.

The 400-meter squad had a day, led by junior Steven Scott (50.68). Freshman Austin Menefee claimed a new PB of 51.72, nailing the conference standard to compete next weekend. In his second-ever 400, junior Russell Bilohlavek ran a 52.50 to hit the conference standard as well.

In the field, sophomore Garek Ellis dropped a new PB of 13.89 meters (45 feet, 7 inches), taking the No. 8 all-time spot. The shot put saw two big performances from the freshman duo of Curtis Burke and Teagun Rominger. Burke threw a new PB of 14.07m (46-2), while Rominger threw a new best of 13.57 meters (44-6.25). Both their marks put them second and third in school history, respectively.

Senior Wynn Wellington finished the women's 3,000 meters in 11:13.59, a 64-second personal best. That mark puts her No. 8 in school history. Sophomore Alaina Kellerman cleared 3.06 meters (10-0.5) in the pole vault, claiming 14th. That marked her second consecutive weekend getting over 10 feet.

The Grizzlies now set their sights on the HCAC Championships this Saturday (Feb. 28) at Mount St. Joseph.
