Men's and Women's Swimming Sweep Rival Rose-Hulman

1/23/2026 10:45:00 PM

Franklin men's swimming and diving hadn't gotten a win against Rose-Hulman since 2023 and lost to the Engineers by a 211-79 just last winter.

On Friday, the Grizzly men nipped that drought in the bud, holding on for a 151.5-142.5 victory to cap an evening sweep at Franklin Middle School.

The women dominated throughout, rolling to a 210-77 win. Both Griz squads are now a perfect 5-0 in HCAC dual meets.

"I just told them to race," Franklin coach Zach Rayce said. "They did exactly what I told them to do and the outcome was exactly what we wanted. Huge night for this program and another big win for the women."

Franklin's women cruised through the meet, winning all but one event on the night. Kat Lundy (100-yard backstroke, 200 individual medley), Celeste Hollis (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly) and Petal Sloan (100 and 500 free) were all double individual winners for the Grizzlies, who also got first-place finishes from Macie McQuinn (1,000 free), Amelia Hlebak (200 free), Ella Johnson (100 breaststroke), Annie Jackson (200 fly), Kaleigh Schuler (1-meter diving) and Avery Tomlinson (200 breast) as well as the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

The men got out in front early with a narrow win in the 200 medley relay from the foursome of Sam Hittel, Nick Coy, Zachary Jackson-Blaine and Kaden Cummins, which out-touched the Rose quartet by two tenths of a second. Byson Howe and Keaton Stephenson then followed with freestyle wins at 1,000 and 200 meters, respectively. From there, Franklin held its lead thanks to big nights from Will Johnson, who won the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as the 100 fly, and Jackson-Blaine, who got individual firsts in the 50 and 100 free. Isaac Layton added a triumph in the 500 freestyle, and the 400 free relay quartet of Stephenson, Cummins, Johnson and Jackson-Blaine sealed the deal with a win in the final event of the meet.

The Grizzlies will see the Engineers again at the HCAC Championships Feb. 11-14, but not before wrapping up the regular season next Saturday afternoon (Jan. 31) with a home dual against Bluffton.
