RECAP | Decade Old Records Fall as Grizzlies Shine at Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Grizzlies took a change in scenery, traveling to Anderson University (Feb. 8) to compete in the Anderson Invitational.

The women finished the night in 10th with eight points, while the men tied for third with 92 points.
 
Women's Results
In the running events, the women's scoring was started by Senior Ella Bashor placing eighth in the mile (5:55.96). In the 400m, sophomore Vicki Arney placed sixth, (1:16.96). Rounding out the night for the Grizzlies, the 4x400m Relay consisting of Fiona Sodrel, Bashor, Arney, and Bailey Kennedy (5:11.00) secured a fifth place finish.
Getting the day started for the field events, senior Bailey Stamper finished with a toss of 9.42m (30'11"), good enough for ninth place. In the weight throw, junior Victoria Abston placed 12th, hurling the weight 10.37m (34' 0.25").
 
Men's Results
The men's 4x200m relay consisting of Steven Scott , Nathan Vujaklija, Brayden Wilkins, and Logan McIntosh was able to hold off Hanover for a first place finish, breaking the school record by over a second (1:31.74). Wilkins would come back in the 60m dash finals to place second, while establishing a new school record (7.01). Senior Luke Paddock laid down a blistering time in the 600m (1:25.66), securing first place and the number two spot all-time indoor. Two spots behind Paddock, David Sieg placed third (1:39.23). Rounding out the night, the 4x400m relay consisting of Scott, Vujaklija, Paddock, McIntosh snagged first place by .02 seconds (3:30.50), putting them third all time indoor. The distance squad, Junior Riley Devening opened up the invite with the 5000m, placing fourth (17:05.68).  In the mile, Franklin placed three in the top eight; senior John Asplund, third (4:36.97), junior Jonah Decker, sixth (4:39.38), and junior Samuel Wilson, seventh (4:39.38). Senior Elliot Gough got his day started with a second place finish in the 1000m (2:42.31), good for number six all time indoors. Following Gough, teammates Nathan Furnish (2:44.42), Andre Davis (2:47.47), and Elijah Von Werder (2:52.33) placed fourth, fifth, and seventh, respectively.


Freshman Ethan Hochstetler got it going for the throws, tossing 12.81m (42'0.5") for an eighth place finish, personal best, and 10th spot all time indoor. Sophomore Max Malone would take 11th place in the weight throw, hurling it 14.38m (47'2.25"), securing him the number five all time indoor.

Franklin will make the trip to Depauw University next Saturday (February 15th) for the DePauw Invitational.
