Swim & Dive Teams Face Fast Company in Kentucky

10/26/2025 2:29:00 PM

The team scores might indicate that Franklin's swim and dive teams had a rough weekend at the Battle in the Bluegrass, losing double dual meets to Case Western and host Centre on Saturday. But coach Zach Rayce was happy with how his swimmers performed against some of the tougher Division III competition in the Midwest.

"It was honestly a really good day of racing," he said. "We saw some great swims from a lot of people ... it was really fun to see them race.

"Both teams just had better depth. Our top end was just as fast, if not better, in some events."

Indeed, the Grizzly women had a good day at the top, winning four individual events and a relay.

The highlight for Franklin was the 400-yard medley relay quartet of Kat Lundy, Avery Tomlinson, Celeste Hollis and Petal Sloan, which pulled away to win in 4:00.25. That time currently ranks the group seventh in the nation.

Lundy was also a winner in both the 100 backstroke (58.97 seconds) and 200 back (2:09.04). Her leadoff split of 58.27 on the 400 medley relay ranks Lundy 26th nationally in the 100 backstroke; the junior is 31st in the 200 back. In addition, Lundy placed third in the 400 individual medley, her time of 4:49.09 currently 19th in the country.

Also claiming a pair of individual wins was Hollis, who finished first in both the 100 fly (59.03, 39th nationally) and 200 fly (2:10.29, 22nd).

Sloan had runner-up finishes in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, cracking the national top 50 in the 100 and 200.

For the Franklin men, Keaton Stephenson was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle (49.57) and joined Will Johnson, Zachary Jackson-Blaine and Kaden Cummins on the second-place 400 free relay (3:16.06). Jackson-Blaine, Johnson, Bryson Howe and Cummins were second in the 200 free relay (1:27.14), with Jackson-Blaine's leadoff leg of 21.07 currently ranking 24th among the nation's fastest in the 50 freestyle.

The Grizzlies will be back in action next Friday (Nov. 7), hosting dual meets against Manchester and Hanover.
