2/26/2023 8:41:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Franklin softball team completed a perfect opening weekend on the diamond with two more wins on Sunday (Feb. 26) to close out the Fontbonne Invitational.

Game one saw the Grizzlies (4-0) take a 2-1 win in eight innings against Carroll. Game two saw the Griz meet up with a familiar foe in the DePauw Tigers and Franklin picked up their first win over the Tigers since 2017 with a 4-2 triumph.

Game One: Franklin 2 – Carroll 1 (8 inn.)
The opening contest featured just eight hits total and no runs until the Pioneers grabbed the ice-breaker in the bottom of the fifth. The Grizzlies trailed by a run heading into their final at-bat but Franklin grinded out a run to send the game to extras. Genesis Munoz reached on an error to open the inning an pinch-runner Reanne Brinker would come home on a one-out RBI single from Eriana Wagner that knotted things up.

Franklin took the lead in the top half of the eighth thanks to a sac fly from Shelby Crockett and the Grizzlies battled their way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.

Wagner finished with two of Franklin's three hits in the contest to pace the offense. In the circle, Sydney Pitts (1-0) scattered five hits, walked two and struck out one in a complete game win, forcing 19 total ground outs in the game.

Game Two: Franklin 4 – DePauw 2
The Grizzlies plated three runs in their first trip to the plate and never looked back against the Tigers. Franklin added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the defense did another great job in keeping the Tigers' offense in check.

Four Grizzlies finished the game with two hits each in Sydney Rodeghier, Sydney Bostic, Munoz and Molly Wallace. In the circle, Stephanni Kleber (2-0) allowed one earned run on nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
