FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's basketball team welcomed the #2-ranked Transylvania Pioneers to the Spurlock Center on Wednesday (Feb. 1) night to tip-off the final month of the regular season.
The Grizzlies (8-12, 5-7 HCAC) dropped their matchup with the Pioneers (20-0, 12-0 HCAC) by a 76-46 count.
Georgia Hanauer hit double digit rebounds for the first time in her career, pulling down 10 boards on the night.
How it Happened
Franklin jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with a bucket from
CiCi Bailey and a three from
Jordan Coon while holding the Pioneers scoreless for the game's first four minutes. The Grizzlies held a lead with three minutes to go in the opening quarter, but seven straight points from the Pios closed out the frame to make it 13-7 with 10 minutes down.
The second quarter saw the Pioneers turn up the full court press to extend their run to 19 consecutive points before a jumper from Hanauer ended the run with 5:33 to go in the half. The Pioneers out-scored Franklin 26-8 in the second quarter and took a 39-15 lead into the half. The Pioneers expanded on their lead over the final 20 minutes.
