FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team closed out competition in 2023 with a pair of dual wins on Saturday (Dec. 9) against Anderson and Heidelberg.
The Grizzly women moved to 6-0 in head-to-head meetings this year, beating Anderson 244-41 and Heidelberg 227-53. The Grizzlies won 14 of the day's events, with eight different individuals taking wins on the day.
Four swimmers recorded multiple event victories, starting with senior
Caileigh McCafferty in the 200 free (1:58.52) and the 100 free (54.94). Senior
Samantha Phillips won the 200 fly (2:13.20) and the 500 free (5:19.66) and freshman
Avery Tomlinson was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.57) and 200 breaststroke (2:36.91). Freshman
Kat Lundy rounded out the dual event winners after taking both the 200 backstroke (2:12.90) and 100 butterfly (1:01.59).
Erin Perkins was the winner in the 1000 free with a time of 11:30.13 and
Kennedy Minter topped the field in the 200 IM in 2:21.81.
The 200 medley relay of McCafferty, Tomlinson, Phillips and
Landi Newcomb won with a time of 1:55.10 and the 400 free relay squad of Newcomb, Lundy,
Petal Sloan and
Celeste Hollis won in 3:50.88.
Two Franklin divers came out of the day with wins on the one-meter board, with
Carley Bond winning the five-dive session with 166.80 points. Sophomore
Kaleigh Schuler won the six-dive session with 240.89 points, narrowly edging out Bond for the win.
Franklin is off until the new year and they get back into competition on Jan. 5-6 at the annual Colonel Classic, hosted by Centre College.
