Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team capped a busy week of competition with two more Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) wins after sweeping the Bluffton Beavers on Saturday (Apr. 16).
The Grizzlies (15-12, 7-3 HCAC)used a six-run fourth inning and held off a late rally from the Beavers (10-19, 2-6 HCAC) to take game one, 7-4. Game two saw the Grizzlies set a program record for runs in an inning with 15 in the first on their way to a 21-5 victory.
Game One: Franklin 7 – Bluffton 4
Shelby Crockett continued her recent hot stretch and put the Grizzlies in front with a solo blast in the bottom of the first inning. Bluffton got the run back in the top of the fourth to tie the game, but Franklin would put things out of reach in their half of the inning.
Molly Wallace brought in a run with a fielder's choice and Makayla Plymale followed with a two-run single to make it a 4-1 game. Franklin loaded the bases with two out in the inning for Crockett and the sophomore shortstop cleared the bags with a double off the wall to make it a 7-1 game.
The Beavers got two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, bringing the go ahead run to the plate with two out. But the game ended as starter Sydney Pitts induced a ground out to end the game.
Pitts (7-3) didn't allow an earned run in a complete game effort. Crockett and Plymale had two hits each to top the FC offense.
Game Two: Franklin 21 – Bluffton 5 (5 inn.)
The Grizzlies put game two away early, racking up 11 hits in the first that led to 15 runs. Six different Grizzlies knocked home runs in the first alone, with a three-run home run from Genesis Munoz highlighting the offensive outburst.
Just for good measure, the Grizzlies plated six more in the third inning with RBIs coming from six different players knocking in runs.
Crockett went 3-for-4 with four runs driven in and Delanie Gourley had three hits in three plate appearances. Munoz tied for the team lead with four RBI.
