Box Score 2 TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team continued a busy week on Thursday (Apr. 14) afternoon, taking on the Rose-Hulman Engineers on the first of three straight days with a double header scheduled.
The Grizzlies (12-11, 5-3 HCAC) left no doubt in either contest, picking up a pair of five-inning wins over the Engineers (13-9, 0-6 HCAC) by scores of 9-0 and 15-1.
Game One: Franklin 9 – Rose-Hulman 0 (5 inn.)
A pair of scoreless trips to the plate started the game but Franklin put things away starting with a four-run third inning. Shelby Crockett led off the frame with a double and scored later in the inning on an error with RBI singles from Genesis Munoz and Molly Wallace coming later in the frame.
Franklin continued their offensive onslaught in the fourth, starting with the first career home run from Addie Csikos to lead off the inning. Munoz drove in another run with a single, Makiah Thomas drove in two with a single and Sydney Bostic scored on a passed ball to cap a five-run frame and end the scoring.
Sydney Rodeghier and Munoz had two hits each with Munoz, Wallace and Thomas driving in two runs each.
Sophomore Sydney Pitts (5-3) got all the support she needed from her offense on her way to tossing a second straight shutout. Pitts allowed three hits, struck out one and did not allow a walk while needing just 48 pitches to record her fifth complete game of the year.
Game Two: Franklin 15 – Rose-Hulman 1 (5 inn.)
Franklin broke out for five runs in their half of the second inning to put things out of reach. Csikos opened the scoring with an RBI single and came in to score a batter later when Shelby Crockett barreled on up for her first home run of the year. Sydney Bostic doubled in a run later in the inning to make it a 5-0 game.
Thomas and Crockett doubled in runs in the third and Rodeghier brought in two with her first career home run to stretch the lead to 9-0. Franklin added six more in the fourth and one in the fifth to cap their scoring outburst.
Five different Grizzlies recorded multiple hits in the game and Crockett's four RBI lead the team. Stephanni Kleber (4-6) scattered four hits and struck out four to pick up the win and her seventh complete game of the year.
