HANOVER, Ind. – The Franklin College track and field teams battled both deep fields and low temperatures on Saturday (Mar. 26) at the Hanover Invitational.
For the second straight week, Franklin's men headed back home with a third-place team finish, recording 58 points to finish just ahead of perennial league powerhouse Rose-Hulman in the standings. Four different Grizzlies tasted victory in their respective events and the team would snag 12 top-five finishes on the day.
Junior Zach Roberts put together a solid afternoon, grabbing first place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.39 seconds while adding a third-place showing in the 200m (23.20) and a seventh-place finish in the long jump (5.28m). Also picking up a win on the track was fellow junior Jaycee Wilburn after he hit the finish line in 2:01.63 to win the 800m run.
In the field, freshman Tristan Konkler claimed first in the high jump, clearing the 1.85m bar. Senior Zak Wiley put together a pair of top-two finishes, winning the hammer throw with a new PR mark of 50.70m and claiming second in the discus with a season-best mark of 42.71m.
Wilburn, Michael Heaing, Drew McGaha and Eli Cochrane teamed up to take second place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:38.31. Other noteable finishes on the track included: Luke Paddock taking third in the 400m (53.44), Elliott Gough taking fourth in both the 800m (2:04.89) and 1500m (4:19.69), Heading finishing fifth in the 400m (53.89) and John Asplund taking sixth in the 1500m (4:23.47).
Also picking up points in the field were sophomore Dalen Williams with a third-place showing in the discus (39.70m) and Noah Sigler finishing fifth in the hammer throw (42.33m) and sixth in the shot put (12.22m).
The Grizzlies are off for a week before hosting the 2022 Grizzly Invitational next Saturday (Apr. 2) at Grizzly Park in Franklin. Start time for the day's events is set for 11:30 a.m.
