Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team fought through the cold and rain to pick up a double-header sweep of Olivet College on Friday (Mar. 25) afternoon.
The opening contest saw the Grizzlies (6-6) score seven times over the final two innings to earn a 9-1 win in five innings. In the second game, Franklin scored at least one time in all four trips to the plate to run away from the Comets (0-5) and earn a 13-3 five-inning win.
Game One: Franklin 9 – Olivet 1 (5 inn.)
Sydney Bostic got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with an RBI single and Addie Csikos added to the lead in the second with an RBI ground out. The Comets cut the lead in half with a run in the third before Franklin blew things open with a four-run fourth with Bostic, Annie Kluemper and Genesis Munoz knocking in runs with singles to stretch the lead to 6-1.
One inning later, Kluemper drove in two more runs with a single and Munoz closed out the game with an RBI single, capping a monster opening game for the 2-4 hitters in the FC lineup. Kluemper, Bostic and Munoz combined to go 9-for-12 with seven RBI to drive the Grizzly offense in the opener.
Stephanni Kleber (2-3) made her first game one start of the season, tossing her fourth complete game with a career-high six strikeouts on 72 pitches.
Game Two: Franklin 13 – Olivet 3 (5 inn.)
Makiah Thomas kicked off the scoring in game two with a two-run double in the first inning. One frame later, Franklin added to their lead with three runs to make it a 5-1 game.
The Comets plated two runs in the third to get back within striking distance but Franklin put a stop to a comeback bid in the bottom of the inning. Molly Wallace led off the frame with her first career home run, kicking off a seven-run frame. Rodeghier capped the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double.
Savannah Shadday (1-0) made her first career start in the circle, giving up three runs on four hits with two strikeouts over three innings of work. Kluemper, Bostic and Kennedy Bond all had multiple hits in the game as Franklin pounded out 12 hits in the final game of the day.
