Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team welcomed the Denison Big Red on Sunday (Mar. 13) for a pair of contests on a windy afternoon at Behrens Field.
The Grizzlies (4-6) saw their brief two-game winning streak come to an end, as the Big Red (4-5) captured both games by scores of 11-2 and 2-1.
Game One: Denison 11 – Franklin 2
Disaster struck early for the home team when Denison put five runs on the board in the first and added three more in the second. Franklin was able to muster a pair of unearned runs in the first two innings, but nothing more as Denison held them in check the rest of the way.
Sydney Rodeghier went 3-for-4 with a run scored at the top of the Franklin lineup. Sydney Pitts (2-1) got the start and lasted an inning before giving way to Delaney Gourley, who logged the final five frames in the circle.
Game Two: Denison 2 – Franklin 1
The second matchup saw base-runners come at a premium before Denison broke through with runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Grizzlies cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth when Sydney Bostic drew a bases loaded walk, but the Grizzlies would leave the bags full. Franklin got back-to-back singles with one out in the seventh, but couldn't push the tying run across.
Shelby Crockett went 2-for-3 a run scored in game two. In the circle, freshman Stephanni Kleber (1-2) pitched well in her third complete game of the season, scattering five hits and striking out four.
