Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Franklin College softball team claimed their first double-header sweep of the season on Thursday (Mar. 10) when they took two close matchups with the Wilmington Quakers.
The Grizzlies (4-4) recorded two big innings in the opener and held off a late rally from the Quakers (0-2) to take a 7-6 game one win. Game two saw freshman Genesis Munoz drive in all three Franklin runs in a 3-1 FC victory that was called after five innings due to darkness.
Game One: Franklin 7 – Wilmington 6
Down by a run after an inning, Franklin got the bats going in their half of the second. A misplayed ball allowed two runs to score and Annie Kluemper and Sydney Bostic followed with RBI singles to put the Griz up 4-1.
Three innings later, Franklin added to their total with RBIs from Munoz and Emily Streib and Molly Wallace scoring on a wild pitch to make it a 7-3 game.
The Quakers got to Franklin starter Sydney Pitts (2-0) in the sixth for three runs, necessitating a call to the bullpen. Sophomore Delaney Gourley was able to nail down her first career save, retiring four of the five batters she faced.
Game Two: Franklin 3 – Wilmington 1 (5 inn.)
Munoz knocked in her second run of the day in the top of the first, bringing in a run on a ground ball to give Franklin an early lead. The Quakers would pull even in the second with an RBI double, but the pitching staffs would take over from there and the game headed into the fifth all square with darkness settling in.
With two outs and the bags full, Munoz played the hero when the dropped a single into right field, scoring Kluemper and Shelby Crockett. Freshman Stephanni Kleber (1-2) set Wilmington down in order in the bottom of the inning to close out her first career win.
