FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College women's tennis team welcomed a pair of team to the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex on Saturday (Sept. 18), with Manchester and Kentucky Wesleyan in town for a long day of competition.
The Grizzlies (2-3, 1-2 HCAC) got in the win column for the first time this year with a 9-0 win over Manchester in a conference matchup. In the afternoon session, the Grizzlies would complete a perfect day with a 6-2 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.
The day began with doubles competition against Manchester, and Franklin claimed both of their doubles matchups, starting with an 8-2 win from Grace Otte and Maecee Terhune at No. 1 doubles. Claire Cherry and Caitlin Fedor completed the doubles sweep with their 8-3 as the No. 2 doubles team.
Four different Grizzlies picked up points in singles play with Franklin dropping just five points across the four singles matches. Emma Foley, Sydney Logsdon, Maddie Bright and Jenna Gates were all winners in straight sets. Franklin claimed the remaining three points by forfeit.
Against the Panthers, Logsdon and Foley teamed up to take an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles while the team of Sydney Carson and Kinley Harmon held on to take an 8-7 (7-3) win as the No. 3 team.
Foley, Logsdon and Gates all picked up their second singles win later in the day, securing the win for the home team. Terhune picked up the final point of the day, winning by default at No. 4 singles.
Franklin's fall season resumes next Saturday (Sept. 25) with two more home matches on tap. The Grizzlies will host Ohio Northern and Concordia Michigan at Grizzly Park, with the first serve of the day set for 9:00 a.m.
