Another week of college tennis, another accolade for
Kenna Harbin.
The Franklin freshman was named the HCAC Player of the Year in women's tennis for the second time this fall after a strong weekend at the ITA Central Regional in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It marks the third time in as many weeks that a Griz player has taken weekly conference honors on the women's side; Harbin's two wins bookend one by sophomore
Eleanor Stillabower last week.
At the regional, Harbin won her first-round singles match against Anais Gerard of North Central, 6-2, 6-2 — the lone HCAC player to win in the first round of the main draw. The freshman also paired with Griz senior
Ailyn Hendricks for an 8-4 victory over Illinois Tech in the opening round of doubles, making them the lone conference pair to advance to the second round. Both of her main-draw losses came against seeded opponents.
Harbin, a native of nearby Greenwood, Indiana, is now 5-2 overall in singles play this season and 6-1 in doubles — five wins with Hendricks and one with Stillabower.
The Griz women will play their annual alumni match on Oct. 10 as part of Homecoming weekend before wrapping up the autumn portion of their schedule with home matches against Asbury (Oct. 16) and IU East (Oct. 17).
