Box Score 2 TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team packed up and headed west on Thursday (Apr. 8) night for two scheduled non-conference games with the Rose-Hulman Engineers.
The Grizzlies (10-6) never trailed in either contest on their way to a sweep of the Engineers (7-10) with wins by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.
Game One: Franklin 6 – Rose-Hulman 1
Neither side broke through on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth when a two-out rally netted Franklin four runs. Addison Csikos knocked home Abby Hickson with a single to open the scoring and Shelby Crockett wore a pitch with the bases loaded for FC's second run of the inning. Natalie Weber capped the scoring with a two-run single.
Rose got a run back in the fourth but a Makiah Thomas RBI single in the fifth put the lead right back to four. Franklin's final run came in the seventh when a one-out triple from Kyra Frye led to her scoring on an error later in the inning.
Alisha Burch (6-2) was dominant in the circle, allowing one unearned run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a complete game effort. Weber and Hickson both had two hits and Frye's three-bagger was the first of her career.
Game Two: Franklin 6 – Rose-Hulman 4
Thomas got the scoring started with a bang in game two, blasting a three-run shot in the top of the third inning to move her into a tie for the team lead with two long balls. One inning later, Sydney Rodeghier's RBI single plated Csikos and Abby Hickson's RBI single in the fifth spotted Franklin a 5-1 lead.
The Engineers would get back within a run with a three-run sixth inning, but Franklin got the lead back to a pair in the seventh when pinch runner Reanne Brinker scored on a passed ball. The Engineers would get the tying run to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the inning before a game-ending lineout cut off the comeback bid.
Freshman Delanie Gourley (4-3) turned in a solid showing in the circle, scattering eight hits and striking out a pair in a complete game effort. Weber went 3-for-4 at the plate with Rodeghier, Hickson, Csikos and Sydney Bostic all adding two hits each.
