RECAP | Grizzlies Open Road Trip with Sweep of Rose-Hulman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team packed up and headed west on Thursday (Apr. 8) night for two scheduled non-conference games with the Rose-Hulman Engineers.

The Grizzlies (10-6) never trailed in either contest on their way to a sweep of the Engineers (7-10) with wins by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.

Game One: Franklin 6 – Rose-Hulman 1
Neither side broke through on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth when a two-out rally netted Franklin four runs. Addison Csikos knocked home Abby Hickson with a single to open the scoring and Shelby Crockett wore a pitch with the bases loaded for FC's second run of the inning. Natalie Weber capped the scoring with a two-run single.

Rose got a run back in the fourth but a Makiah Thomas RBI single in the fifth put the lead right back to four. Franklin's final run came in the seventh when a one-out triple from Kyra Frye led to her scoring on an error later in the inning.

Alisha Burch (6-2) was dominant in the circle, allowing one unearned run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a complete game effort. Weber and Hickson both had two hits and Frye's three-bagger was the first of her career.

Game Two: Franklin 6 – Rose-Hulman 4
Thomas got the scoring started with a bang in game two, blasting a three-run shot in the top of the third inning to move her into a tie for the team lead with two long balls. One inning later, Sydney Rodeghier's RBI single plated Csikos and Abby Hickson's RBI single in the fifth spotted Franklin a 5-1 lead.

The Engineers would get back within a run with a three-run sixth inning, but Franklin got the lead back to a pair in the seventh when pinch runner Reanne Brinker scored on a passed ball. The Engineers would get the tying run to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the inning before a game-ending lineout cut off the comeback bid.

Freshman Delanie Gourley (4-3) turned in a solid showing in the circle, scattering eight hits and striking out a pair in a complete game effort. Weber went 3-for-4 at the plate with Rodeghier, Hickson, Csikos and Sydney Bostic all adding two hits each.

Up Next
Franklin continues their road trip on Sunday (Apr. 11) afternoon with two games against the Mount St. Joseph Lions. First pitch from Ohio is set for 2:00 p.m.
